Kiosk London 2014

Star Micronics Demonstrates Enhanced Functionality of Powerful “All-In-One” AsuraCPRNT™ and Intelligent POS Printing Solutions at Kiosk London Expo 2014

At Kiosk London Expo 2014 (15-16 October 2014, Barbican Centre, London) Star Micronics, the world’s leading installer of packaged and modular specialist kiosk printing solutions will be exhibiting its extensive range of industry-leading products including its compact kiosk – the AsuraCPRNT™, as well as demonstrating POS printer integration with Apple iOS and Android devices.

Retailers have to embrace the latest industry buzz words ‘bricks and clicks’ in order to survive. And, they have to provide an elegant and low cost in-store solution to achieve just this. Recognising that, Star has created its own web browser for its 38cm high ‘All-in-One’ interactive communication platform, the AsuraCPRNT™. The Star AsuraBrowser enables easy web page development for developers / end users and provides a powerful in-store solution that brings together all channels for loyalty, couponing, queue management, etc.

To highlight the wealth of opportunities available and versatility of this ‘All-in-One’ solution, Star will be demonstrating on the stand a range of couponing applications and providing an example of a retail outlet where the customer is able to check stock availability.

The success of the AsuraCPRNT to date is reflected in the range of environments and applications in which it is being deployed, from queue management in retail and government environments to supermarkets. Much more than a standard kiosk, this innovative solution offers a unique way to engage customers, extend on-site promotions, simplify and personalise the purchase experience and ultimately maximise sales offering a wealth of applications from queue management solutions to in-store browsing and endless aisle reservation systems, loyalty and coupon redemption and ticket validation. In fact, the range of applications is limitless offering developers a unique hardware platform to build custom apps and create a complete value-added solution.

Apps have been developed all over the world for the AsuraCPRNT including loyalty apps from Synqera in Russia using ‘Big Data’ analysis, queue management systems by Lonsto that is being used in retail across the UK, QMinder in Estonia and Bizerba in the US and Canada as well as secure mobile payment apps by companies such as Ensygnia, just to name a few.

To enable on screen promotions, the AsuraCPRNT can control digital signage solutions to run product-related videos and promotions on a series of Ethernet enabled plasmas, while at the same time providing an intelligent communication tool to enhance the customer in-store experience and even provide the customer with coupons that are linked to the video on display. Optimised to support the connection of external USB peripherals from biometric scanners to 3G/4G dongles, the AsuraCPRNT has been developed specifically for low cost integration on Linux or Android operating platforms with effective and professionally supported SDKs for both available. Windows based developers can take advantage of the AsuraCPRNT’s Thin Client capability.

At its heart is the powerful processor that manages the touch screen and 80mm intelligent receipt, ticket and coupon printer housed within. Featuring an internal speaker and with the scalability of external audio in and out ports, the AsuraCPRNT is available with optional integrated MSR, Barcode or combined MSR/barcode readers. NFC options can also be accommodated as connectivity with the mobile world is considered key given the need to drive applications and web content to other digital devices such as store kiosks, merchant tablets and customers’ smart phones as BYOD campaigns become more popular.

Beyond the AsuraCPRNT, Star will be demonstrating POS printer integration with Apple iOS and Android devices. Mobile POS printing has a number of different meanings depending on the application required. To Star, this signifies versatile print control from mobile devices/cloud computing including HTML 5 to both desktop and mobile printers using Apple iOS, Windows or Android devices.

With the rapid emergence of iPad and Android POS applications for retail and hospitality and the growing integration of iOS and Android tablets into kiosks, Star is one of the leading providers of advanced driver and platform support for mobile POS applications, as demonstrated by its advanced iOS and Android POS printer SDK: StarIO for iOS and Android.

Annette Tarlton, Marketing Director, Star Micronics EMEA, states, “Kiosk London Expo provides Star with an excellent platform to demonstrate its pioneering approach and extensive range of industry-leading products to a large number of high quality end users and kiosk integrators. From its versatile compact kiosk, AsuraCPRNT™, to its position as one of the leading providers of advanced driver and platform support for mPOS applications, Star effectively meets changing customer demands with innovative and reliable, yet low cost solutions.”
